About
Hey, we're Team Toronto ! Grab a byte with us near Union Station some time :D
About Us
Team Toronto is a group of people who love Linux, Open Source, and most importantly Self-Hosting. We gather on occasion to talk about our recent endeavors related to the Self-Hosting hobby and to talk about the Jupiter Broadcasting Podcasts.
Get in Touch
We chat on an open source protocol called Matrix which is used by Jupiter Broadcasting. This chatting platform is interoperable which means that any Matrix server you join will allow you to communicate with users on all other Matrix servers. Think of this as if it was email, but it looks similar to something like Discord. You can self-host your own matrix server, or join one. Since Matrix is a protocol not a platform, you can chose your own client to connect to any server.
Meetups
We're pretty sporadic with our meetups so there is no predefined schedule, but we normally gather in restaurants around Union Station in central Toronto. This makes things easy for people using the train or subway. When there is an upcoming or proposed meetup a moderator will post it in Matrix and pin the message. Confirmed meetups will appear in the calendar.
Subscribe to the Calendar
There is a link at the top of this page to subscribe to our events calendar. Clicking on this link in your browser will save the current events into your calendar, but this wont update automatically for you to see new events. To periodically download the iCalendar file ( .ics ) and update your calendar app automatically you'll need a client that supports it or a secondary app, for example iCSx5, that's dedicated to updating iCalendar files, commonly referred to as Webcal.
